Allô Strasbourg ?

Un petit extrait en images d'une conversation Skype avec Jean, en préparation de notre documentaire qui va se tourner à Strasbourg et dans les environs très prochainement.

Oui, c'est moi là, qui suis prise en photo. Jean (que l'on aperçoit dans le petit rectangle noir, ci-dessus à droite) ne lâche décidément jamais son appareil photo en ce moment. Alors pour équilibrer, j'ai fait quelques captures d'écran de lui. En couleurs.

Un constat. Je viens de terminer des essais techniques en préparation de deux nouveaux tournages et je réalise que je n'ai toujours pas pris en photo ou enregistrer les voix de mes amis et de ma famille, malgré le matériel dont je dispose. J'avais pourtant promis à certains... Mettre autant d'enthousiasme et de passion, si ce n'est plus, à élaborer un propos esthétique pour mettre en valeur mes proches, devrait être un geste naturel. Alors quoi ?

P.S. : Le ton maussade de ce post me vient aussi probablement du (mini) râteau que je me suis pris samedi soir. Le quatrième en 8 mois de la même personne. Comme je sais qu'il ne me lit pas, je me permets ! Il faut que ça sorte parce qu'est-ce que ça fait mal l'amour non partagé !

Petite visite chez Drop-it

Je suis à Paris (oui, de nouveau) et ceci est mon premier jour de travail sur le projet Tant que ça roule. Paris est décidément une ville pleine de charme et de dingues. Le monde de la cyclomessagerie aussi.

Afin de rencontrer une première fois, l'informaticien et photographe mais aussi baïke mess et revendeur de vélos vintage, Ryosuke Wai, qui participe à mon projet, je suis passée le voir à son travail chez Drop-It. J'ai poussé la porte et je ne te raconte pas, non, je ne te raconte pas. C'est vrai ce qu'on dit. Les coursiers sont des marsupiaux. Vraiment.

I just returned from the Kino Festival where I saw a great documentary from Russian director Askold Kurov. No need to be a Soviet-era specialist to get what's going on in this film which tells of the everyday hassles of Lenin Museum built in 1985 in the revolutionary’s hometown of Gorki. Check this out:

A short trip to Lausanne

I went to Lausanne last Wednesday to meet some old friends and discuss my current and upcoming film projects. Business trips in a different city are good, for they push you to develop your sense of orientation.


With an hour to kill before my first appointment, I decided to visit FINA Headquarters. It didn't seem far on a two-dimension map. I just forgot center Lausanne was built on a slope and anything but flat. Visitors there should make a note as to which plane of elevation they are on and where they want to go, or they otherwise find themselves tens of meters below or above the street which they are trying to reach. Which is exactly what happened to me. I found myself lost (or thought I was... :)) in a maze of terraced dead end streets and had to go back before getting late. Anyways, it wasn't a complete waste of time. Weather was crap but Lausanne residential area near the lake is just so beautiful and so much quieter than Geneva...

I later joined freelancing cameraman and editor Pat at his place. He worked on several occasions with RED cameras and editing systems. I heard terrible anecdotes on RED and I never really thought of using it as a possible option, but after watching one of Pat's demo and listening to his experiences, I am seriously reconsidering it. I mean, why not? We'll see.

Second appointment was sound engineer Wolfgang. I worked with him before, on Metastruments. Like Pat, it was nice seeing him again. Wolfgang just founded a new studio and according to the amount of absent calls he received on his cell, it's a success and more and more clients keep coming in. We talked about his projects and mine. And like Pat, he seemed pretty open for a future partnership.

Trip ended up well, and in the evening, on my way back to Geneva, I recalled all the insightful conversations I had that day. I realized how good it felt to have in-depth conversations about film projects with people. Oh wow, I miss that...

Fallow Green entered stage #2 of postproduction

A quick post to announce that I am finally done with the shooting and image editing of Fallow Green. Time to work on sound, voice over and music.
I am so exhausted that I am not even in the mood for celebrating. Seriously? How long have I been working on this film? Am I blasé or what? ;P

Shooting cut-ins plus a quick hands-on review of Nikon D700

I rented the Nikon D700 this week at Bureau Culturel to shoot cut-ins and add them to my editing. No doubt, I am lucky. A 175 CHF charge a week is a bargain, compared to professional shop rates.



I had no time for thorough testing but everything went fine despite all the wind and dust around on location. I am having little reservation though about the fixed 50mm lens. The guy at the Bureau Culturel front desk warned me that some costumers complained about "pixel smudging". He was right. I got weird artifacts when I set the aperture high with manual focus. Ben always told me : no matter the camera, it is all about lenses. I now understand why he spent 4000 CHF on his. Anyways. I ended using no manual, only presets, and I liked the results. I am content... :)

One more sneak pic from the upcoming documentary "Fallow Green", just to give me courage and to vent a lil' bit about how difficult is the writing of its voice-over text. I have to say this is possibly the hardest thing I ever had to do, creatively speaking. But I am hanging on in there.
